Pre-Requisite: There is no pre-requisite for this Course.
 You Will Learn How To  
  • Define phlebotomy and understand the role of
        phlebotomist
  • Identify types and structures of blood vessels
  • Describe guidelines for patient relations
  • Describe safety procedures including standard
        precautions and OSHA exposure control plan
        standards
  • Perform a routine blood collection by both
        venipuncture and skin puncture
  • Perform collections
  • Prepare and centrifuge samples
  • Who Should Attend
    Students who are interested in pursuing a career as a Phlebotomy Technician. This Course also prepares you for the NHA's "Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)" exam.
    Phlebotomy
    Phlebotomy is the practice of opening a vein by incision or puncture to remove blood as a therapeutic treatment.

  • Medical Asepsis and Infection Control
  • Identifying types and structures of blood vessels
  • Describing guidelines for patient relations
  • Current Guidelines from Center for Disease control
  • Assembly of equipment such as needles, blood
        collection, devices, gauze, tourniquet, cotton, and
        alcohol
  • Patient preparation
  • Routine procedures
  • Methods of drawing blood from patients or donors in
        hospitals, blood banks, clinics, doctor’s offices,
        laboratories or similar facility for medical purposes
  • Verification or identification of patient or donor
  • Anticoagulants and the type of tests
  • Arterial Procedures
  • Performing a routine blood collection by both
        venipuncture and skin puncture
  • Performing a collection by syringe
  • Labeling the collected sample
  • Storing and preparing a sample for transportation
